Michael Gillick was born and raised in Wisconsin. He received a bachelor's degree in classical languages and a master's degree in philosophy from St. Louis University and a law degree and a doctorate in philosophy from Marquette University. He is president of the firm of Gillick, Wicht, Gillick & Graf, and he has, for almost all of his legal career, concentrated on representing injured workers. Mr. Giilick's philosophical work has focused on the grounds of morality and the meaning of justice. He has written and lectured on these subjects in the United States and elsewhere. His work is most thoroughly dependent upon the thinking of Emmanuel Levinas, a twentieth century philosopher who dedicated himself primarily to the methods of phenomenology set forth by Edmund Husserl. In particular, it was the thinking of Levinas that brought Mr. Gillick to understand that his search for a metaphysical basis for morality was misguided, and that, in fact, it was morality that was the ground of metaphysics. Mr. Gillick married Margaret Keehner in 1969. He and Margaret have three daughters and six grandchildren. View all posts by wethecenter
